Sri Chinmoy believed that spirituality should be a natural part of daily life. In his own life, he demonstrated that the inner peace found through deep meditation can bring purpose to everything we do. He was a poet, playwright, storyteller, artist, musician, composer, singer, athlete, and a dreamer of peace. In short, he was an extraordinary person whose inspiration touched many creative fields. He was also a spiritual teacher, helping people on their journey to discover themselves.
Starting in 1970, Sri Chinmoy was invited by the UN secretary-general at the time, U Thant, to lead twice-weekly meditations at the United Nations. Sri Chinmoy also started many other projects aimed at spreading inner and outer peace, including the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, a global torch relay for peace. He was born in India and moved to New York in 1964, where he lived until his passing in 2007.
