Sri Chinmoy delivered his first university lecture on 10 January 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica. Over the following four decades, he gave spiritual lectures at hundreds of universities worldwide, including prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, the Sorbonne, Harvard, and Yale.
Sri Chinmoy expresses himself through various forms of written and spoken word, including poetry, essays, lectures, aphorisms, question-and-answer sessions, stories, and plays. His work spans a wide range of topics, from humorous tales of village life and plays about spiritual figures to philosophical lectures on yoga and poetry that explores mystical ecstasy.
Sri Chinmoy was a spiritual poet, musician and an artist. Rooted in the rich tradition of Bengali poets, he wrote extensively in both Bengali and English. A central theme in his poetry is self-transcendence and the connection between the heart and the mind. Many of his Bengali poems are lyrical and set to music, with Sri Chinmoy often translating them into English himself. His English poems, whether devotional or reflective, span a broad spectrum of expression.
